Is the Bible trustworthy – Part 2

If you missed Part 1 of how we can know the Bible is trustworthy you can catch up HERE and HERE.  In addition to the reasons discussed, here are other reasons for confidence in Bible’s claims about itself.

The Testimony of God

It is reasonable and logical to expect that the God who is true and cannot lie would reveal truth to mankind. Titus 1:2 “…God, who cannot lie…”  It is also logical to expect that God who is all-powerful to inspire the recording of His revelation so that it is done without error.

The Testimony of the Bible itself

If a book or a person has spoken truthfully on all other matters, it is reasonable to allow them to speak for themselves. For example, the Bible contains hundreds of specific prophesies (some of which were given hundreds of years in advance) that have been fulfilled specifically.

The Testimony of Jesus Christ

Jesus, the most significant figure in all of history recognized that the entire Old Testament was scripture – John 5:39. Jesus quoted 16 Old Testament books in the Gospels. Jesus debated unbelievers with scripture, demonstrating His high view of scripture.

The Testimony of the New Testament Writers

Matthew, John, and Peter were personal friends and followers of Jesus, making them eyewitnesses of His miracles and teachings. James and Jude were half-brothers of Jesus.  Paul claimed to receive his message directly from God. (Galatians 1:11-17 )They claimed their writings to be directly inspired by God. 2 Tim. 2:16, 2 Peter 1:21

The Testimony of the accuracy of the Bible

Centuries of historical discoveries have affirmed the historical and geographical references of the Bible.  Here is just a sampling:

For 2,000 years the Bible has stood the test of time.  The all-time #1 best seller is a rock we can build our lives on!
