The Christian church in ancient Thessalonica was under fierce persecution from the outside world which hated Christianity. The follower of Jesus in Thessalonica had been faithful to God and had been growing in their faith. The Apostle Paul, himself under threat in another city, wrote to encourage them to remain steadfast in their faith and love for Jesus. In doing so he reminded them of a bedrock truth that can strengthen your faith and mine. Paul acknowledged the trials and hardships of life, and then proclaimed:
“But Lord is faithful. He will establish you and guard you against the evil one.” 2 Thessalonians 3:3
In the midst of a morally corrupt culture – the Lord is faithful.
In the midst of persecution – the Lord is faithful.
When tragedy strikes – the Lord is faithful.
When your spouse doesn’t believe – the Lord is faithful.
When your job is eliminated – the Lord is faithful.
When your child is wayward – the Lord is faithful.
When you’re weary in hoping – the Lord is faithful.
When I falter – the Lord is faithful.
When I’m unfaithful – the Lord is faithful.
The Lord is faithful and WILL establish you and guard you from the evil one. So when you feel like you can’t hang on anymore – it’s OK. After all, the faithful Lord is hanging on to you.
“May the Lord direct your hearts to the love of God and to the steadfastness of Christ.” 2 Thessalonians 3:5
