Reflections from our first Discovery Church worship service

  • I woke up early this morning realizing that what Craig Price and I began dreaming about in Martin Dorm room #207 would come to life. I thank God, and give Him the highest praise for calling me to plant a church.
  • I am amazed at how positive our volunteers were when we faced obstacles from the outset today. If you thought it was hot today when you arrived, you should have been there when our setup team was unloading the trailer. The A/C mix-up couldn’t hold down what God was about to do.
  • Little is much when God is in it. To say that Discovery Church has been operating on a shoestring budget is an understatement. So when 168 people showed up today when we had no mail outs, no signs, no marketing strategy except Facebook and person to person invites I was blown away. Never underestimate the power of personally asking someone to go to church with you.
  • 168 showing up day one was thrilling. The band was awesome. The Discovery Café was sweet. However, what made today a win was all the stories of people impacted by God’s word. The many people in tears because they had received HOPE for the first time in a long time. We’ve said from the beginning that we didn’t just want to have cool church services, but want to see God move in the hearts of people. He began moving day one.
  • I am exhausted. We WILL make setup easier Setup Team!
  • I am so grateful for all the churches and individuals who barely know me, or do not know me at all – YET they stood with us, gave to us and served with us to make today possible.
  • I am grateful for my friends who gave up a Sunday at their church to help us. I am really grateful to Todd Dorsey’s kingdom view of Discovery Church.
  • May Your faithful love rest on us, Lord, for we put our hope in You! Psalm 33:22
