A leader worth following

That is what I want to be.

That is what Tony Dungy is, according to NFL football players. In a private survey current NFL players were asked what Coach they would most want to play for. The overwhelingly # 1 answer was Tony Dungy. 3 of the next 4 were coaches Dungy hired, trained, and mentored.

That speak volumes. You can read the article here.

  1. I believe that as a Christian the only leader worth following is Christ and him alone. I am sure that Tony Dungy would agree, spiritually.

  2. Yes that makes lots of sense. You should never follow your Father, mother, Grandparents, older siblings, teachers, mentors, coaches, no one in the world that GOD put down here for us to follow. No one but God himself in the flesh. Spirtitually I look to Christ’s example in the Bible and to you Brad and to my father as well. Thankyou for being a leader for me… especially spiritually Brad.

  3. Jesus said:39You search and investigate and pore over the Scriptures diligently, because you suppose and trust that you have eternal life through them. And these [very Scriptures] testify about Me! 40And still you are not willing [but refuse] to come to Me, so that you might have life. 41I receive not glory from men [I crave no human honor, I look for no mortal fame], 42But I know you and recognize and understand that you have not the love of God in you. 43I have come in My Father’s name and with His power, and you do not receive Me [your hearts are not open to Me, you give Me no welcome]; but if another comes in his own name and his own power and with no other authority but himself, you will receive him and give him your approval.******************************************You see Christ himself had to tell the religious of the day that they make the mistake of thinking that by studying and knowing the bible they have eternal life. Instead, as Jesus explains, the scriptures only serve as a sign post pointing Jesus who IS Life. The bible only points to the Life. It does not contain it.Jesus also said:5They do all their works to be seen of men; for they make wide their phylacteries ([a]small cases enclosing certain Scripture passages, worn during prayer on the left arm and forehead) and make long their fringes [worn by all male Israelites, according to the command].(A) 6And they [b]take pleasure in and [thus] love the place of honor at feasts and the best seats in the synagogues, 7And to be greeted with honor in the marketplaces and to have people call them rabbi. 8But you are not to be called rabbi (teacher), for you have one Teacher and you are all brothers. 9And do not call anyone [in the church] on earth father, for you have one Father, Who is in heaven. 10And you must not be called masters (leaders), for you have one Master (Leader), the Christ.*********************************************Again Christ makes it clear we have only ONE teacher, One leader, One father. To put someone else in His spot is to displace Christ.Again Christ says:27The sheep that are My own hear and are listening to My voice; and I know them, and they follow Me.*********************************************His sheep HEAR and FOLLOW HIM. Praise God that we all can know Him for ourselves and no longer do we have to go to anyone else to know HIM!!!!!34And they will no more teach each man his neighbor and each man his brother, saying, Know the Lord, for they will all know Me [recognize, understand, and be acquainted with Me], from the least of them to the greatest, says the Lord. Praise God!!!!

  4. OK, enough. This is silly. Beyond silly. There are people of integrity in this world. Christ has compelled us to live in a manner that is worthy of Him, to be an example for others to follow. If no one is to teach, or lead, what was Jesus thinking when he asked His diciples to go and make disciples.I get that you don’t believe in the church, pastors etc. Your point has been made. This post is about being a man or woman of integrity – an example for others to follow and has noting to do with the one’s view of Ecclesiology. Let’s move on.

  5. Brad,He said make them disciples of themselves? No, disciples of Christ. They were to point to Christ and then let them follow Christ.Tony is great leader in football but not to be followed spiritually. We are not to be an example to be followed. We are to be a witness to the ONE who is to be followed. The good news Christ came to share was the separation was now gone. All could know God personally and no longer had to have any surrogate. My first post was a declaration of that GOOD NEWS (the gospel)! I’m sorry you think it silly. I am only sharing what the Spirit is saying.

  6. So I guees when God commanded Moses to LEAD the people the people should have ignored him because we shouldnt follow anyone. Or when The BIBLE says for the man to be the leader in the household………………1Ch 12:27 – Show ContextAnd Jehoiada was the leader of the Aaronites, and with him were three thousand and seven hundred; 1Ch 13:1 – Show ContextAnd David consulted with the captains of thousands and hundreds, and with every leader. Isa 55:4 – Show ContextBehold, I have given him for a witness to the people, a leader and commander to the people. Well I cant believe God would actually have the word leader in the bible if he wasn’t looking for some good men to lead. Lets be honest you all are confused about this whole thing. Tony Dungy is a leader and example to Christians. Because of Tony Dungy’s faith and comitment to Christ other players, fans, personel departments, etc are able to see his faith. Through his profession of faith some may be LEAD to Christ because of it. After that person becomes a Child of God he can read the bible do all the stuff but may not understand it all thats why there are Leaders. Leaders help show us the way, give us a living example of the way to live, act, etc. No that young Christian or Christian watsover isnt suppose to worship the leader but there are leaders and examples out there to help show us the way.

  7. I also just want to thank My parents, grandparents, brothers, sister, Keith Price, Pastor Walls, and others. Because of your leadership and example in my life I have become the man I am today. You have shown me the strength, mercy, temperness, faith, compassion, and so many things that have influeced my life for the rest of my life. Because of your leadership I can take the priciples and life lessons and apply them to the rest of my life and my future family. Thanks.
