Happy New Year from Discovery Church

Happy New Year! 2011 is here and to quote Louie Giglio: “Jesus is alive, anything is possible!” I’m excited to see what possibilities God has in store for our lives this year. Every new year we should make one of our goals and resolutions to grow closer to Christ. One of the ways I believe you can realize this goal is to be faithfully committed to worship and spend time with God’s family.
Discovery Church takes off with weekly services on January 9th @ 11am. We’ll continue to meet at Farragut High School. Get the year started off right next Sunday with the whole family. Discovery Kids is a great place for your children to learn about and grow close to their Heavenly Father. We’ll be kicking off a new series for adults: In Rhythm—a closer look at our core values. God is doing great things in Discovery, it is a privilege to be on the ground floor of this movement.
Feel free to stop by early and enjoy Discovery Café—open at 10:30am.
See you soon!

Shattered Dreams
What happens when our dreams for the future – dreams for our marriages, our children, our career, our finances, our relationships, our education fall apart? Everyone at some point or another will face this kind of defining moment in their life. At some point in time everything will feel like it is falling apart for us, or those we love.
What do we make of Shattered Dreams? If you find yourself in this scenario, let me encourage you to listen to the message below. I believe it will strengthen your faith and encourage you during these difficult times. It will remind you that when your dreams seem out of OUR reach, you can be reminded that we are NEVER out of our heavenly father’s reach.

Fulmer, Spurrier, and the Church
John Pennington and John Adams are not my favorite Knoxville News Sentinel columnists, but THIS ARTICLE by Pennington was really insightful.
I couldn’t help but think it was a very good parable for the Church as well.
Just substitute ‘church’ for Fulmer and Spurrier, and you’ll see wha I mean.

Important things that get overooked
In Oliver Springs, TN, where I am currently residing – we have a traffic light that has been missing the green bulb for the better part of 3 MONTHS. The light is at the second busiest intersection in town.(There are not very many busy intersections to be honest, but…) It most certainly could cause a serious accident if you are not paying attention. Yet, month after month goes by and the bulb is never replaced.Good Grief!
How does Billy Volek beat the Indianapolis Colts?
Tony Dungy’s kids have enrolled in school in Tampa, FL…rumors are that Dungy is seriously considering retiring and moving back to the Bay area to retire.
Want to know how much Jim Irsay, Colts owner, wants him to stay?? He has offered Dungy three months off in the off season and his own private jet during the season for him to coach at least one more year.
I’m with you Jim…give us one more year Tony!
